Meg Troy
a.k.a. Gail Sheehan
Accomplishments
- At ten years old, she won a hundred dollar Canada Savings Bond and a diamond wrist watch for her fifth grade teacher in a city-wide poetry contest open to all elementary and high school students sponsored by a Montreal radio station CJAD.
- At twelve years old, she auditioned and won the opportunity to appear a number of times on the talent segment of the CBC television program “Reach for the Top” singing her own musical compositions.
- At twelve, she was chosen to appear in front of three thousand people at the annual CBC Variety Show held at Place Des Arts center for the arts in Montreal. She was the youngest participant.
- At eighteen years old, she appeared with her younger brother Larry singing in local coffee shops, CTV Blood Donor Clinics, and high school musicals
- At twenty years old, she recorded two songs on the London Record Label which received cross country and international airplay along side such renowned artists as Joni Mitchell, Anne Murray, and Gordon Lightfoot.
- This led to appearances on Montreal, Ottawa, and Toronto Television shows such as “Like Young”, “Ca Paso”, “The New Generation”, etc… as well as radio interviews with “Peter Pzewski”, etc…
- Approached by Quebec Chant rouse “Edith Butler” to create English lyrics to her already recorded French songs.
- Approached by Peter Cronenburg to compose a theme song for the Norman Bethune movie with Donald Sutherland (although pleased with Gail’s submission it was not accepted due to a decision made by the Executive Producer to only allow Chinese music throughout the movie)
- Composed a children’s story with accompanying songs entitled “The Wally Wish Tree” that was performed by elementary school children in Yellowknife and Toronto for their Christmas pageant.
- Received royalties for her music being used for commercials in Europe
- Asked by North Vancouver puppetry troop “Talking Hands Puppetry” to compose the sound track for “The Frog Prince” performed for children at a number of art spaces in North and West Vancouver.
- Received a juried entry acceptance for her poem “Grand Boulevard” into the opening of CityScape Gallery in North Vancouver.
- Received a juried entry acceptance for her painting “Senior’s, Our History” into the 2005 PITH exhibition at the Seymour Art Gallery in North Vancouver.
- Was asked by JMW Publishing Company to publish her poem “Mystery of Mysteries” in their 2005 “Prominent Voices in Poetry” anthology which was handed out to twenty-five university libraries in the United States.
- Received a juried entry acceptance for her painting “A Robin’s Song” in 2007 DISCOVERY exhibition at the Seymour Art Gallery in North Vancouver
- Participated in the Seymour Art Gallery Festival 2007 with 35 other artists
